On Wednesday evening, January 4, 2012, the Greater Boston Food Bank hosted volunteers from seven
Boston law firms, including Looney & Grossman LLP, as part of a coordinated attorney/administrator volunteer event.
The volunteers inspected, sorted and repackaged donated grocery products to send to hunger relief agencies throughout eastern
Massachusetts. Each year, more than 16,000 volunteers help sort and distribute products acquired through food industry product donations, food drives and financial contributions, allowing the Food Bank to purchase additional high nutrient quality food. These donations help benefit local food pantries, community meal programs, homeless and residential shelters, youth programs, senior centers, and day-care centers embedded in communities throughout the nine counties of eastern
Massachusetts.
After receiving some initial food safety training, our attorneys and administrators worked together as a team on the Food Bank’s assembly line to sort and inspect products, load boxes onto conveyer belts and weigh out boxes of sorted foods for distribution. In addition to helping feed local families, volunteering at GBFB was an exciting opportunity to meet and work along side attorneys and administrators from other firms!
